The Subaru FA & FB engines (eg. FA20 and FA24 in the Toyota 86) have a fatal flaw. When a valve spring loses pressure, the rocker arm assembly can fall out. If it's picked up by the camshaft, it gets shot out the tappet cover, causing oil to spill onto the exhaust headers, potentially catching fire.
Now, without the rocker, the valve can drop inside the cylinder and destroy the piston. Yes, sometimes it’s an over rev but it can happen across the rev range even on your daily driver.
So if you drive a Toyota 86, or any Subaru with an FA or FB engine, this IS the most important upgrade you can do to save you an expensive engine rebuild. It’ll give you peace of mind when driving.
